AACSB Accreditation Journey

1. Joining AACSB Membership Phase (2008–2009)

AACSB International, based in the United States, is one of the world’s most prestigious business education accreditation organizations. Recognizing its significance in global business education, our university fully supported the College of Business’s initiative to pursue AACSB accreditation. In 2008, the university officially established the “AACSB Accreditation Office” as the key administrative and strategic center to drive the accreditation process.

By the end of 2008, the AACSB Accreditation Office was fully set up, including the Executive Director’s office, project assistants, and student assistants’ workstations, along with necessary office equipment. On May 19, 2009, an inauguration ceremony was held, featuring a ribbon-cutting and keynote speech by Professor Chou from National Chengchi University, alongside faculty and staff.

Following the office launch, the College of Business began integrating resources across departments by:

  • Inviting faculty representatives to form the “AACSB Seed Faculty” team to study accreditation standards together.
  • Completely revising the college profile and curriculum brochures.
  • Updating the COB mission and educational objectives while formulating accreditation strategies.
  • Proactively visiting other domestic universities to learn from their accreditation experiences.

With these thorough preparations, the College of Business officially became an AACSB International member in September 2009, marking a significant milestone toward international quality assurance.

2. Initial Accreditation Phase (2011–2015)

In February 2011, the COB submitted its Eligibility Application, which was approved by AACSB in April the same year. AACSB appointed Professor Peter Lindstrom, Executive Director of the Quality Development Office at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland, as the accreditation mentor, who conducted the first visit in January 2012.

Following the initial visit, the College submitted the annual report to the Peer Review Advisory Committee (PAC) in June 2012 and received approval, allowing the second visit to proceed in July 2012. With the mentor’s guidance, the College completed its Standard Adjustment Plan (SAP) and passed the Initial Accreditation Committee (IAC) review in November 2012.

On January 7, 2014, the COB formally submitted its Initial Accreditation Application. In March, AACSB appointed Gonzalo Garland, Associate Dean of IE Business School (Spain), as the visit team chair, alongside Professor Ali Dastmalchian, former Dean of the University of Victoria (Canada), and Professor Alice Guilhon, Dean of SKEMA Business School (France).

The COB submitted its Self-Evaluation Report (SER) at the end of July 2014. The visit team conducted an on-site review from November 30 to December 3, 2014.

Ultimately, the College of Business was officially granted AACSB International accreditation in February 2015, entering the Continuous Improvement Review (CIR) phase—an important milestone for international educational quality.

3. First Continuous Improvement Review (CIR) Phase (2017–2021)

On July 1, 2017, the COB submitted its first CIR application. AACSB appointed Geoff Perry, Vice President of Auckland University of Technology (New Zealand), as the visit team chair in September 2018, along with business school deans from Purdue University and Seattle Pacific University serving as reviewers.

In 2019, Geoff Perry was promoted to AACSB’s Executive Vice President for Asia, and Sandeep Krishnamurthy, Dean of the Foster School of Business at the University of Washington Bothell, succeeded as team chair.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the originally scheduled on-site visit in May 2020 was postponed to November 2020 and conducted for the first time as a remote virtual visit.

In February 2021, the College successfully maintained its AACSB accreditation, demonstrating continuous advancement in teaching, research, and governance.

4. Second Continuous Improvement Review (CIR) Phase (2025)

The second CIR on-site visit took place from May 24 to 28, 2025. AACSB appointed a distinguished team of international business school deans:

  • Prof. Brian S. Klaas (Chair), University of Missouri-Kansas City, USA
  • Prof. Kaushal Chari, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, USA
  • Prof. Ahmad Tootoonchi, University of Tennessee at Martin, USA

During the visit, the team highly praised the College for its educational philosophy, faculty development, research achievements, student competitiveness, and resource allocation, particularly commending students’ professional competence, global vision, and practical skills.

In September 2025, the College officially secured the renewal of its AACSB accreditation, symbolizing ongoing excellence in teaching, research innovation, international collaboration, and talent cultivation. Moving forward, the College will pursue forward-looking strategies to expand global partnerships and nurture business leaders equipped with professionalism, international perspectives, and ethical values.
